An inter-sector realist synthesis of sexual harassment in the medical workplace
- How might models of medical vocational training protect from, or impact on, the experience of vertical and horizontal sexual harrassment by doctors?
- How might institutional governance structures protect from, or impact on, the experience of vertical and horizontal sexual harassment of doctors?
- How might models of gender representation at higher levels protect from, or impact, on the experience of vertical and horizontal sexual harassment of doctors?
We will refine the definition of vertical and horizontal sexual harassment.
(b) Search strategies
Therefore propose a two-pronged approach to the search: one addressing papers which overtly reference experiences of sexual harassment focusing on a set of terms around sexual harassment, workplace, institutions (subdivided into types of institutions), and another addressing interventions for sexual harassment in institutions. The search terms will also be applied to all journals indexed through Blackwell, Elsevier, Informaworld, Ingentaconnect and Science Direct, as well as the 15 databases identified as relevant for this project.
(c) Selection of studies
Data will be extracted by two people working independently. Studies will be filtered out using a set of questions on whether or not they address structural causes or associates of sexual harassment.
A realist synthesis will then be undertaken on the selected studies to identify the mechanism through which sexual harassment may arise and be countered, in line with the three research questions.
